Possibilities

My main aim with Stardoll's Next Top Graphic Designer is to create a fun and exciting competition where graphic artists can improve and do better, with the help of the judges critique. This is why I feel as though the whole elimination process is slightly unhelpful. Someone may be eliminated in task one for "being the worst" but this doesn't give them a chance to improve. I know that it's a competition and all, but I definitely think there's ways to work around that.

My concept is to make NO eliminations. Every contestant will send in their graphics and the judges will critique them. They however will give me a score but it will not be revealed. Nobody will be eliminated but the people will know where to improve. If someone fails to complete a task then they are able to do the next week but will not get the scoring they could have got on the previous one which will set them back.

At the end a total score for everyone will be added up and then a big grand finale will be staged with a countdown until the winner.

I really want to try this, but what do you think?
Any queries just comment below.

(There will still be top photos and judging but no elimination until the end)

  1. i'm not really a fan of this idea. i think it completely dissolves the element of competition, and without that element, i don't think people are going to want it so bad, and therefore not put in the exceptional amount of effort they otherwise would. although, i do see where you're coming from, people who are not as talented will need more help in order to improve, but i think that you have to be at a certain level of graphics before you can begin improving your skills. it's about finding your own personal method and applying it to graphics that are unique and likeable.

i would definitely prefer if ntgd stuck to it's original format, as it's an enjoyable competition which does wonders for designers who want to be and deserved to be noticed.

  2. I get your point but I think that with that people won't give so much effort on their graphics, I think they won't do the best they can because they know that they will still be in the competition even the graphic is not good.. So, in my opinion, I think you should keep the old way.

  3. I don't think so. Since you still get points for every graphic, you will put effort in it and maybe even more, because you don't know exactly if you are best or not.

I also think it will be great to see more graphics throughout the competition :)

  4. It's kind of a mediocre idea in my view.

  5. I'm not suire... it sounds more of Kirsten's SIUITGW competition. I think keeping it the way is a good idea, but maybe allowing the eliminated contestants to enter the next tasks including the finale? They'd still get feedback on their graphics, although they will not get the chance to win.

  6. Hmm, I'm not sure - maybe have two tasks then an elimination? Like give feedback after the first task and see improvement or the chance to show a better piece of work or something.
I do kind of agree with what EllieCase(the lightweight) has said above how people might not put the effort in, because there will be no fear of being eliminated if you don't do well. I think the fear was quite good for me, it made me want to improve to keep up with the other competitors =)

  7. I agree with @jackbitch. I mean like the whole reson behind the competition is the competitive spirit! SO I think it wd be great if the same format continues!

  8. I actually really like this idea. I mean, there are still top photos, so I think people will put as much effort as before in order to get zop photo. But maybe there should be an elimination ceremony in the semi-finals so that only two or three will pass through. How about this idea?

  9. I think maybe a few eliminations. Like one every two times, so it gives people a chance to improve. (-:

  10. Maybe every second task you should eliminate? So there can be top 2...? Just so it narrows down the competition... maybe :P

  11. I think the next cycle should start in some days because lots of people who are in scholl are now in Christmas holidays from school so they would have more time :) It's just an opinion :)
